Eileen L. Gehrke (nee Muladore), 89, a long-time resident of Plainfield, passed peacefully on April 30 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home, Joliet. She was born on July 28, 1927 to James and Lela (nee Pope) Muladore in Streator.
Eileen was the devoted wife of Harvey E. Gehrke, whom she married on October 12, 1946; he preceded her in death on November 27, 1989. Loving mother of Connie (Al) Litwiller of Plainfield; Tom (Theresa) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Ron (Betsy) of Golden, Colo. Cherished grandmother of Heather (Mike) Paprstein of Munster, Ind.; Dan (Sarah) Litwiller of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; Tina (Jason) Robison and Chris (Erica) Gehrke of Cedar Rapids; Kylie and Kaylen Gehrke of Golden, Colo. Adored by 13 great-grandchildren: Mike Litwiller, Olivia and Ian Paprstein, Joseph, Isaac and Soanna Litwiller, Cassie and Jax Robison, Hannah, Samantha, Thomas, Isabelle and Ryan Gehrke. Beloved aunt of Bob, Ed, Roger, Mary, Judi, the late Corky and the late Debbie. She is also survived by numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce (Lowell) Lantz; brother, Jim (Betty) Muladore; and her mother-in-law Evelyn Gehrke, and her parents.
Eileen was a graduate of Plainfield High School (Class of 1945). During World War II, she worked at the Lockport Sailplane Factory and later at the Illinois Box and Crate Company in Plainfield. Eileen was devoted to her family and enjoyed attending their numerous school and sports activities. She and Harvey enjoyed traveling throughout the West, Hawaii, and Canada. She was an avid reader.
Visitation is Sunday, May 21, 4 – 7 p.m. at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of routes 30 and 59, Plainfield. Funeral Services are Monday, May 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Plainfield Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL, 60431 would be greatly appreciated.
