Richard K. “Dick” Wright, age 84, a lifelong resident of Plainfield, died June 18, 2016, at his home. He was born Jan. 27, 1932, in Joliet.
Beloved husband of the late Carol E. Wright (nee Tellin), who preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2016, loving father of Mark (Barb) Wright, Michelle “Micki” (Doug) Dralle, Lissa Dibble (Kerry Terlep), and Marci (Jim) Peart, cherished grandfather of Sarah, Nicholas, Megan, Tyler, Baylee, Stephanie and Molly, dear brother of Betty (Sam) Richardson, Judy (the late Bill Boren) Gaynor and the late Miles (the late Jo) Wright, Harold Wright, Rodney (Audrey) Wright, Carolyn Wright and Joyce Manning.
Dick grew up in Plainfield, was a 1950 graduate of Plainfield High School, where he excelled as a quarterback on the football team and later attended Joliet Junior College. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and went on to work for Illinois Bell for many years.
Dick was active in the Plainfield community. He coached Little League baseball and started the first Plainfield youth football league (Pop Warner). Dick served as president of the Board of Commissioners for the Plainfield Township Park District from 1977-1981.
Memorial Visitation was June 21, 4 to 7 p.m. at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Road, Plainfield.
A celebration of Dick’s life will follow 7 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Bill Beagle officiating.
Interment: Private.
