Carol B. Pickup, nee Haas, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, 95, of DeLand, Florida, passed into God’s hands Sept. 15, 2016. She was born Nov. 21, 1920, to Edith and Ernest J. Haas. She grew up in Chicago with her mother and grandfather. She attended grade school and graduated from Kelvyn Park High School.
Carol married Charles E. Pickup Sept. 23, 1939. They moved to Niles in March of 1942 to raise their family. She worked and later was a seamstress for many ladies and men in town. She was an active member of Niles Presbyterian Church, Homemakers Extension, Red Cardinal Rollers Camping Club and the Lyons Club.
In 1987, Carol and her husband moved to Lady Lake, Florida, where they were active in many of the same organizations. Carol volunteered countless hours in local nursing homes, as well as knitting hundreds of hats for newborn babies.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years. She is survived by her son, Richard Pickup (Mary Carmen); daughter Catherine Denis; grandsons Kevin Walger and Keith (Julie) Walger; and granddaughters Kimberlie (Sean) Daly and Khristie (Greg) Kaplan. She had nine great-grandchildren: Kalee Walger, Kevin Walger Jr., Allison Walger, Jessica Walger, Emily Daly, Jack Daly, Morgan Kaplan, Parker Kaplan and Sydney Kaplan.
She was a member of the first Presbyterian Church of DeLand.
