Matthew F. “Matt” Tomaszewski, 70, a resident of Plainfield, since 1981, formerly of Chicago, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017. He was born May 31, 1947 in Chicago.
Beloved husband of 44 years to Joy A. Tomaszewski (nee Sundheim), whom he married July 28, 1973, loving father of Matthew A. (Amanda) Tomaszewski of Bolingbrook, and Alysse (Jon) Meiners of Montgomery, adored grandfather of Nathan M. and Bryant M. Meiners, devoted son of the late Matthew A. and Anna C. (nee Rybak) Tomaszewski, brother-in-law of Edward C. Sundheim of Sarasota, Fla., and James W. (Mary Qualls) Sundheim of San Luis Obispo, Cali, fond nephew, cousin, uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.
Matt grew up on Chicago’s South Side, attended St. Turibius Grade School, and was a graduate of Brother Rice High School, Class of 1965. He received a degree in marketing from Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity. Matt worked in the computer paper industry for many years, most recently for the Relizon Company, retiring in 2006.
Matt volunteered as a Cub Scout Master and girls softball coach in Plainfield. He was a proud alumnus, donor and football fan of his alma mater, NIU and still enjoyed getting together with his college friends. Matt also loved music and attended many concerts and music festivals with his family and friends. Matt will be dearly missed.
Visitation was June 29 at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Rd., Plainfield.
A celebration of Matt’s life was June 30 in the funeral home.
Interment: St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery, Plainfield.
