Dorothy M. “Dot” Wood
Dorothy Mary “Dot” Wood (nee Reed), 99, a resident of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., a former resident of Lockport, Plainfield and Woodridge, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Canterbury Center, Shepherdstown, WV. She was born March 21, 1918 in Joliet.
Beloved mother of Linda C. Wood of Woodridge, and Carol A. (Stephen J. Ranson) Wood of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; devoted daughter of the late Nelson and Mary (nee Sheridan) Reed; loving sister of the late Rita (the late Howard) Bennett; sister-in-law of Marion Love of Hickory, NC, dear aunt of many, including: Gene (Eileen) Rapp of Boise, Idaho; Gary (Lynn Skelton) Rapp of Merritt Island, Fla., and George (Patricia) Rapp of Plainfield; John (Jane) Wood of Sugar Grove; and Peggy (Lynn) Olsen of Joliet; fond great-aunt, great-great aunt and friend of many.
Dot grew up in Lockport and moved to Plainfield after her marriage to Preston Wood. She was employed in sales by The Boston Store and The My Shop, both in Joliet; and later with Fleischmann Distilling Corporation (now Diageo) in Plainfield for 25 years. Dot was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Plainfield and enjoyed gardening, working with ceramics and, most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
Visitation Saturday, Aug. 5, at 9 a.m.-noon at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Rd., Plainfield.
A celebration of Dot’s life will follow Saturday, Aug. 5, noon in the funeral home.
Interment: St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery, Plainfield.
