Obituary: Helen M. Struzik

Helen M. Struzik, nee Marszalek, age 88, a longtime resident of Plainfield, formerly of Joliet, passed away April 29 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. She was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Joliet.

Beloved wife of the late Edward F. Struzik, whom she married Nov. 25, 1954, and who preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1994. She was the loving mother of the late Mary Kay Struzik; devoted daughter of the late Walter and Mary, nee Stec, Marszalek; dear sister of Freda (the late Michael) Blahut of Joliet and the late Theresa and Frances Marszalek; and friend of many, including Robert and Lynda McCarthy.

Helen grew up in Joliet and was a graduate of Joliet Township High School (Class of 1946). She was a graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and St. Vincent Hospital School of Pediatric Nursing, both in Chicago. Helen was employed as a nurse at the office of Dr. Charles Wollak and later served as the school nurse at St. Mary Immaculate School in Plainfield.

Helen was a longtime, active member of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Plainfield, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was known as “The Donut Lady” for helping to organize parish donut Sundays.

Visitation is Thursday, May 5, from 9-10 a.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 15629 S. Route 59, Plainfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Crest Hill, IL.
