Edith M. Bangert, age 94, of Sheridan, formerly of Plainfield, at rest June 7, 2016, at the Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich. Born March 19, 1922, in Naperville, the daughter of the late Henry and Ottilia Drendel. Beloved wife of the late Paul; loving mother of Marilyn (Rick) Childress, Barbara (Elmer) Kelm, Gail (Bill Semenza) Bangert, Anita (Dave Nagel) Bangert, Patti (Bruce Grendahl) Bangert, Thomas (Debbie) Bangert and the late Kenneth Bangert; cherished grandmother of 16; and fond great-grandmother of 28.
Edith was raised in Naperville until moving to Plainfield in 1950. She is a long-time member of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Plainfield, was one of the founding members of the funeral luncheon committee and a member of the Catholic Council of Women since 1950. Edith will be remembered for being an avid reader, seamstress and card player.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mary Immaculate Church or Vitas Hospice are appreciated. Visitation was June 12, from 2 – 6 p.m. at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Road, Plainfield. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Church, 15629 S. Route 59, Plainfield. Funeral was Tuesday, June 14 at 9:30 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
